Education - Australia

Our MX3 kit is ideal for use in educational institutions.

The small footprint means that more machines can be fitted into a given area for multi-machine classrooms and the pricing means that it's easy to buy multiple units.

Even though it has a small footprint that doesn't mean it has a small machining 'window' - and as opposed to many of the other 'educational' CNC mills our MX3 and X3 create an extremely capable system.... it's not a toy!!

All machines in a multi-machine classroom can easily be connected into a single halt switch. In this scenario a teacher or instructor would be able to activate a master halt button to instantly stop all machines. It also means that the person in charge of the class can ensure that all systems are disabled until such a time as the class is ready to machine. Individual eStop control remains for each machine as our IC3A controllers allow for a secondary halt mechanism via its watchdog input.

The instructors halt button could also incorporate a key switch to prevent unauthorised use.

Both eStop and watchdog can be configured for multi-point activation too. Either can simply be 'strung' around a room and terminated at as many points as required.

Running industry standard g-code means that the training given to students will carry across to the workforce. Training on a live system is invaluable to students - teaching them g-code commands, running manually with MDI input, learning the different techniques to achieve the required results, and of course learning how errors in g-code and cause crashes (or worse!!).

Pricing for schools is not listed on the web site however we do offer all schools a 5% discount from the RRP where the system is to be used for educational purposes. Multiple machine purchases on the one order will receive an even greater discount (based on actual number ordered).

It is also worth noting that with student safety in mind we do not sell any MX3 kits or turn-key solutions to schools without our Fishtank. The Fishtank is basically an enclosure which completely surrounds the machine and has safety interlocks on the access panels - opening the access panel will instantly trigger a halt condition (again this can be linked to all machines). It has a number of lights on it including our special 'help required' indicator - here's a list of the lamps/lights:

  • Power Available (Illuminates whenever the Fishtank has an active mains supply to it)
  • Power On (Internal Fluorescent)(Illuminates whenever the main switch is turned on)
  • eStop (Illuminates whenever the controller is in an eStop condition)
  • Enabled (Illuminates whenever controller is enabled and the machine is capable of running)
  • Active (Illuminates whenever the controller is active and receiving g-code)
  • Help Required (Illuminates if the student pushes the 'Help Required' button)

Please note that our Fishtank (enclosure) is not yet available and as such we will not sell to schools or other educational facilities as student safety is our main priority. This page is on line now purely to give advance notice to those interested in purchasing for such institutions - please email us to register your interest in advance.
